About the Oregon Lottery

The Oregon Lottery was established by local voters in 1984. A five-member Commission oversees its operations, with members appointed by the state governor on four-year terms. After income tax, the lottery is Orgeon’s second largest income source, with over $12 billion raised for state funding (oregon lottery funds) since its inception.

 

Oregon Lottery Rules

There are a few basic rules regarding who can participate in Oregon state lottery games. Have a look at the criteria below to see if you’re eligible to play:

  • Participants must be 18 or older to play Scratch-Its and jackpot games, including the Powerball;
  • Participants must be 21 or older to play Video Lottery or Scoreboard;
  • Winning tickets must be purchased within state boundaries, but winners do not have to be Oregon residents.

Oregon Lottery Tickets

There are currently around 3,900 Oregon Lottery retailers you can buy tickets from. Winning lottery tickets are typically valid for one year, so lucky winners will need to claim their prizes during that time.

Can I buy OR tickets online?

The majority of the OR Lottery’s games are only available from retailers. However, players can make sports bets through Scoreboard online, and can also register online for the Scratch-It Second Chance.

Oregon Lottery Games and Drawing Schedule

Powerball

Powerball is one of the top jackpot lottery games and is played all across the US every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 7:59pm. Powerball lottery plays are the following, five white balls are drawn from a possible 69, along with one red power ball from a set of 26. Entry is $2 and you can double your Oregon lottery funds by matching just the powerball number. The jackpot top prize is awarded if you match five white ball numbers plus the powerball, and the best part is that the jackpot starts at $40 million and keeps growing until a lucky winner is crowned.

Mega Millions

Mega Millions is another hugely popular lottery game played nationally. Mega Millions lottery plays are the following You can purchase $2 tickets for draws on Tuesday and Friday at 7:59pm. Five white ball numbers are drawn from a possible 70. In addition, one Mega Ball is chosen at random from a possible 25. You win your money back if you match the Mega Ball, or double your money if you match a single number as well. The prizes grow for matching more numbers up to the Mega Millions jackpot, paid to players matching five white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball. There’s even a multiplier added to any prizes you win if you add this to your ticket for an extra $1.

Oregon’s Game Megabucks

Oregon’s flagship lottery game, Megabucks, has been around for over 30 years. Tickets cost just $1 and draws take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 7:29pm. In Megabucks, 6 numbers are drawn from a set of 48. Megabucks lottery plays is the following, you can choose your own numbers or use the Quick Pick. There are prizes for matching three, four, five or six numbers, with a huge jackpot of at least $1 million on the table. You can also add a Kicker for an extra $1 which multiplies your win by four for four or five-number wins, or chucks in an extra $4 on a three-number win.

Lucky Lines

Lucky Lines costs $2 to play, with draws taking place daily at 6:00pm. Lucky Lines lottery plays is the following, the game resembles tic-tac-toe, with prizes available for matching numbers vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. The rolling jackpot pays out a minimum of $10,000 for seven or eight matched lines.

Win for Life

Win for Life offers players just that, $1,000 a week paid to them for life. $2 tickets are available for draws on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 7:30pm. With each ticket you get 15 sets of 4 numbers between 1–77, meaning there are 46 ways to win and multiple wins on a ticket. The sets are split between the different potential lottery profits, with the second-largest top prize being $50,000.

Pick 4

Pick 4 takes place four times a day and offers seven different ways to win. The winning methods include all four numbers in the exact order, or the first, middle, or last numbers in the exact order.

How to Claim a Lottery Top Prize in Oregon

Lucky winners have up to a year to claim lottery prizes, while prizes are typically processed within 14 days. The way to claim differs slightly depending on the prize amount:

If your top prize is over $50,000, call the number 800-766-6789 and a lottery representative will assist you.

For prizes up to $50,000, you have four options:

  • Send by mail
  • Take your ticket to a Lottery retailer
  • Use the drop box in Salem
  • Claim in person at a Prize Payment Center

For mail or drop box, you’ll need to follow these initial steps:

  1. Sign the back of your winning ticket.
  2. Complete our Winner Claim Form.
  3. Put the ticket and form together in an envelope.

Notable Winners of Oregon State Lotteries

There have been scores of delighted lottery winners in recent years, including some of the following:

  • Rick K and Leslie won a staggering $5,800,000 on Oregon’s Game Megabucks in August 2021. Out of character, Rick forgot to buy tickets one week and thankfully picked up a winner last minute near Linfield College;
